After about a month and a half of hard work, my maze game Impassable Labyrinth is finally out! :D Obviously when you hear "maze generator" it might come across as boring, or unexciting. Computer maze generators are kinda repetitive and always go around the edges. Right? That's no fun! Well, not this one! |
Impassable Labyrinth is a fully fledged level editor and player for mazes. It takes a tile based approach to maze generating rather than the usual cell based approach. Each square can be one of twelve different tiles. The randomization and exact algorithm I created (that's right I didn't use any old algorithm, I made my own) will not be shared, but I'll give any game devs that are a little bit curious a clue. The reason it generates so many difficult mazes is because it's essentially rigged to wind itself into tons and tons of dead ends. Most maze generators try to require themselves to fill in every little gap, often causing a weak algorithm. Mine does not. Also, a good, difficult maze has the perfect balance between loops and dead ends, not every space filled in and no loops. Anyway, if plain maze ain't enough for you, there's a level editor! The level editor includes a bunch of extra pieces meant for making custom levels ten times more puzzling! Transporters will warp you from one spot to the other, allowing for surprise loops and dead ends! Keys and doors can turn the maze into a puzzle, where getting keys in the wrong order will result in ultimate failure! Share your epic levels on the >>Impassable Labyrinth Level Sharing Forum<< as well as playing others' levels! You can upload levels by simply opening one of your levels with notepad and copy/pasting the entire thing into a comment, or you paste it onto a site such as pastebin, and share the link. :) If you want to download Impassable Labyrinth, you can find it on my "Games" page. Since I'm no Microsoft Verified Publisher or anything, Windows will give you all sorts of security warnings when you go to install my game. You can pretty much ignore those, my program ain't malicious. :P And if you don't trust me enough to download my program... then... well... "y u even on my website"? xD jk Have fun! |
